Violet presents the work of Lot Doms, consisting of analog photographic works, both in color and black-and-white, combined with a selection of objects. The title of the exhibition refers to a diptych, two analog baryta prints that Lot first presented at Violet in 2022 during the duo exhibition Ocean Dancer. The works she now exhibits focus on the personal relationship she establishes with material and space, as well as the idea of domesticity, a recurring theme in her practice.
Lot often builds upon existing imagery, as seen in the new variations of Lichtjes Opgeschoven, which are now on display. In one of the works, a cabinet is placed in the garden, caught in a moment of transition. There is a certain intimacy to this cabinet. Through slow observation and the artist’s gradual shift in perception towards the object, a play of shifting perspectives, light, and shadow emerges, emphasizing these photographic elements. The resulting images give the object a new dimension.
The other work, Gekleurde Ruimte, reveals seemingly three-dimensional spaces that arise through a play of analog-printed color fields. By working with color filters in the darkroom, the final outcome remains uncertain until it appears. This approach allows space for an initial curiosity, an element of discovery.
Alongside these photographic works, a number of wooden objects are also exhibited. Kamer van de Huizen is a piece she creates in collaboration with her partner Bram and their son Raoul. The objects are interactive and, in new combinations, continually generate different narratives. For the presentation at Violet, Lot has left a spontaneous arrangement, inspired by an interpretation of her son.
